hevizi_toThe main attraction of the town having about 4800 inhabitants is the world’s largest thermal lake with a peat-bottom covering an area of 4,44 hectares. The lake offers the experience of outdoor bathing all year round. Besides this, there are several places of interest and activities for guests arriving at Hévíz. The historic buildings of the Schulhof promenade leading to the thermal lake are beautiful (e.g..: György-house, Rákóczi-house),and also the atmospheric pedestrian streets in the centre having renovated in 2010.

heviz_galeriaHere on the Deák Square we can find the Hévíz Gallery, where all year long temporary exhibitions can be  looked at. In the Atrium of the building covered with a glass dome varied cultural and entertainment programmes are organized from spring to autumn. Among the historic values, we have to mention the Museum Collection of Hévíz,  the medical history exhibition, the Aquamarine Fine Art Gallery and the  Arany Csárda Gallery. Cinema addicts can watch the films offered by the Fontana Art Cinema, which can be lived through in 3D as well with the help of modern sound-and light technology.

Several classical and pop music concerts, theatrical performances and festivals are held in the town, which are not only linked to the Hungarians but also to the national culture and traditions of the arriving foreign guests. Here are some annual events: Carnival Festival at the end of February, Season-opening Festival in March, Easter Rejoicing, Pentecostal Merriment, Midsummer Night’s Merry-making on 23 June, Wake of Egregy on 20 July, Wine Festival on 20 August, The Day of the Hungarian Song at the beginning of September, Grape Harvest in Egregy in the middle of September, Family Festival on Martin’s Day on 11 November and Town New Year’s Eve.

korhazpark_hevizFor sports-fans it is recommended to take a walk into the protected forest around the beautiful lake or  along the 2,5 km-long Berki walking path presenting the marshy area of Hévíz. They can visit the nearby    Cserszegtomaj and go up to the Margit- lookout tower next to the arboretum, where round panorama opens up to the Bay of Keszthely, to the surrounding countryside, to the southern shore and in nice weather the elevations of the Bakony Mountains appear. From April to October, our guests can take a sightseeing tour starting from the centre to the wine bars of Egregy by Dotto train. Cyclists can approach Keszthely, the Bike-way around Lake Balaton and Little Balaton along a built bike-way starting from the southern entrance of the Thermal bath, through the protected forest of the lake and through some small brooks and an incline. They can go for Nordic walking and Segway tours as well organized by the local    Tourinform office. There are several opportunities for doing sports at the Sports Hall of Hévíz or at the Base of High-Tech Sports, furthermore there are tennis courts at number of points of the town and we can also find roller skating and skateboarding tracks.

For water sports there are a plenty of possibilities offered by Lake Balaton but it can be a unique  experience to have a canoe trip on the brook of Hévíz in winter or to ice-skate on the ice-rink in the centre. There are so many programme opportunities to choose from since there is a golf course nearby, an Adventure Park in Gyenesdiás or we can have the opportunity to see the beauties of this landscape from above by having a pleasure flight or travelling by a hot air balloon.
